65 Miles. Rain. Wind. Lack of coffee. This ride was tough for me. It started off nice; Dublin, California is pretty, I had no idea. 20 miles in took us to the first check point/rest stop. I ate a banana and some Fig Newtons and drank what was left in my water bottle. I filled back up and was on my way. The next segment was about 15 miles to lunch, again beautiful, a little rain, nothing horrible. All was well. Lunch was good. (This ride was nicely supported.) The sun seemed to poke out and we all wanted to sit in it for a bit. I had high hopes for more and loosened my jacket and jersey as I headed out. But the next 13 miles were pure hell. The sky darkened and brought wind, rain, wind, and more rain. I zipped back up and plodded along. It took me almost 2 hours to get through those 13 miles! The wind was incredible. At the last rest stop and facing 17 more miles, the sun poked out of the clouds and I was ready to FINISH IT. But it rained again! Oh Well, it was easy compared to the 13 mile segment from hell. Overall it was a beautiful ride, great people and support. Riding in the rain is kinda fun. But wind sucks unless its pushing you forward! -JanePosted by Picasa
