A new view...

I finally started reading Pete Hamill’s "Forever." A novel, actual fiction.

But it is not your average, everyday fiction. It basically chronicles the history of Manhattan from the perspective of a single character, Cormac O'Connor who is promised eternal life so long as he never leaves the island -having arrived in 1740. (Finishing the novel in early September 2001, Hamill told his editor he needed more time after 9/11, he wanted to include the event from the perspective of Cormac.) On Pete Hamill and the city, John Dunne wrote: “Pete Hamill evokes a New York that exists today only in memory. Read it and you feel the asphalt sticking to your shoes in a summer stickball game…” Anyone fascinated with New York City and American history and who loves the storytelling of Pete Hamill should enjoy this book. So far, I am.
