Que up Dire Straights: I want my GPS!

And other random thoughts...

I have been tracking my rides over the last month to contribute my miles to www.bikecommutemonth.com and the MILLION MILE MAY CHALLENGE. In doing so, my geeky cycling side has been activated and I'm wanting to track more data for signs of improvement in speed and heart rate. Enter the Garmin Edge. Not only does it track speed, distance, cadence, laps, time, it also plots elevation and heart rate. I can then upload my ride data to MotionBased.com and analyze rides for trends. The MotionBased.com web site also plots the ride as a Google map. It is 'fit and geeky' fabulous.

In other related news, an ALC6 rider has posted zoomable Google maps of the ride route. These are amazingly accurate and also include an elevation button. Clicking the elevation button shows the route distance as well as elevation stats and a profile. I have ridden every single mile of this route (twice!). Sigh, makes me wish I was riding this year. I can't wait to support this event and be around the awesome rider and roadie crew energy.
